Teach Your Old Site New Tricks

Is it time to breathe some new life into your old site? I’ve talked before about easy tweaks to freshen up your site, but sometimes a site needs to be shaken up a bit.

No matter how well a site has been designed for a target audience, times will continue to change and churn out new trends for audiences of all kinds. Don’t let your site get stale. Here are a few ways to update your site without compromising your comfort level.

Update those Reviews
Have some testimonials on display for your visitors? Maye sure they’re recent—a few months in real life can look like an eternity on the Internet. A sudden drop off in customer feedback or testimonials can sometimes look like the business stopped trying to please its customers. Don’t get caught being too comfortable. Keep asking for those testimonials.

Rearrange the Furniture
Just like in a home, sometimes the major items need to be seen from a new angle. Does your site have a postheader? See what it looks like down by the footer! Navigation menu hanging out in the middle? Try sticking it to the top of your site. Don’t be afraid to stray from convention and move some items around. Taking these risks will definitely keep your site from looking outdated and stale.

Keep it Short and Sweet
If you still have long forms on your Insurance Agency Website, or even dozens of available forms, think about cutting it down a bit. Studies have shown that the fewer questions you ask and the less options you give overall, the higher your rate of conversion. Try having a short contact form that promises a response or follow-up in a set timetable.

Don’t Forget Carrier Logos
Carriers are often merging or updating their own brand and logos. Make sure you don’t have a carrier featured on your site with an outdated logo. This not only hurts your relationship with the carrier, if it’s noticed by a potential customer, it can send a negative message about how much attention the agency pays its business and business relationships.

Stay Current
This one seems like a no-brainer, but when it comes to the blog in particular, don’t be afraid to stray from the topic of insurance. Blogging about current events shows a more personal and in-touch side of the agency. This also helps with fresh content for site engines. Start with a few fun posts that will relate to your customers while still being outside the realm of insurance.

Try Sweepstakes or Specials
Time sensitive contests are a great way to bring some excitement and ensure there is some fresh activity for the agency and website. Whether it’s referring a friend for rewards, or liking a Facebook page for a fun discount, these are fun ways to test the temperature of your audience and see how involved they are. Insurance website should be designed for consumers’ ease, so this can be a fun way to urge people along.

Address Pages with No Traffic
Content is King, but fruitless content can be detrimental. You may think that since nobody is reading it, why waste your time adjusting it—but this speaks volumes to search engines. No matter how deeply hidden this dusty content may be, search engines will know it’s there and getting stale. Don’t let old ignored content stink up your site and bring it down.

Most of these changes can be implemented in a few days, or can easily be worked into a normal routine. Don’t get caught getting too comfortable—try some of these tips today.
